In Tennessee, the court system is made up of the Supreme Court, Appellate Courts, Trial Courts, and courts with limited jurisdiction. There is a court clerk for each type of court. The court clerks schedule hearings, accept filings, and do other administrative tasks for their court. The judicial branch, one of the three basic divisions of state government, serves as a check on the powers of both the legislative and executive h the power of judicial review, the courts rule on the constitutionality of legislation passed by the Tennessee General Assembly and considers the legality of administrative policies and regulations.
